Buy now or wait ?

With the challenging economic times seemingly first and foremost on the mind of Edmonton consumers a comment we have been receiving is that consumers are going to wait till the economy settles down before installing a new furnace or air conditioner.

If you are one of the Albertans who are concerned about their livelihood, then waiting may be prudent.  The most difficult thing to do,  if you are not one of those whose job may be at risk, is to put the daily onslaught of negative media into perspective .

This is not 2008, we are not faced with a global recession, we are not faced with a  Canadian recession and technically, we are not even facing a recession in Alberta either as we have not had two quarters of economic contraction.  This is simply a short term blip on the radar for Alberta, driven by a sudden reduction in oil revenues.. Even the most negative of media outlets and think tanks speculate that by the end of the year we will start to see a turn around to better fortunes.

There is no doubt that one of the industries affected by this sudden downturn is new home construction and most builders will tell you that showhome traffic is down. They are still selling homes though, lots of them and the incentives they are offering buyers are incredible. If you are thinking of buying a new home, the time could not be better. Firms like Dyand are firmly rooted in the new home industry, and with the number of homes being built down, the number of new home installations is also down.  This means we have an abundance of labor available to install retrofit systems and you will benefit from that.

All manufacturers have increased pricing for 2015 and with the soft Canadian dollar prices should be increasing at the consumer level as well. Dyand is holding our 2014 pricing, and in some cases actually reducing it from 2014. This means that for consumers; now is the perfect time to buy. It also means that as the economy improves in the second half of 2015, prices will quickly escalate to reflect the increased costs all businesses currently face.
